Killion Photography Blog bio picture

Welcome

Hi there! Welcome to the Killion Photography blog. My name is Jackie and I'm a photographer in DFW, TX who specializes in creating lifestyle portraits for families, children, seniors, and couples. This is the place where I get to feature images from some of my latest sessions and share my friends and family with you.

My blog is a more relaxed place and I hope you'll visit often to see what's happening! There's a place to leave comments at the end of each post. I love reading them so I hope you'll share your thoughts before jetting off!

If you're interested in booking a session, or want to see more of my portfolio, just click on the "Website" link above. And if you're wondering about my old blog (which isn't nearly as cute as this one ;), you can always visit www.jkillion.wordpress.com to check it out.

Ringin’ in the New Year….

To celebrate the New Year, we went over to one of my best friends houses last night.   I am so blessed to have some really close friends.  There are 4 of us that are super close and will most likely always be.  They’re the kind of friends you can act like a complete idiot around and they will still love you.  You can be hateful and mean, and they will forgive you.  You can go shopping with, and they will be honest with you when an outfit makes you look fat.  You can be pursuing the wrong things in life, and they will confront you.  You can sit and cry with when life gets tough, and they will listen and encourage you to keep pressing on.  These kind of friends are very rare, and I am so lucky to have them in my life.  I love you girls and wish you many blessings for 2009!

Jay and I brought over our “photo booth” last night so that while we were celebrating, we could have some fun with our camera.   I used my white seamless and set-up my new flash to bounce off an umbrella since it was pretty dark in the house.  Up until now, I have used only natural/available light for all my work, but have been wanting to learn how to properly use an off camera flash for awhile.  So we just got our new flash and last night was the first time we broke it out to play with.  Off camera flash is a whole new world for me.  To do it right, you really have to learn the mechanics of how it all works.  There is SO much more to learn than I ever imagined.  But, you can do some really cool things with it, once you get it down.   This is something I will be conquering in 2009.

So here are some images from last night with the flash.  I’m pretty happy with how they turned out considering it was my first time to play.  But I am already thinking about things I should have done differently and can’t wait to try!  I called our little set-up my “photo booth” and had them act like they were in a little booth at the fair getting their picture taken!

One of the four of us, is in North Carolina right now, so she missed out, but here’s one of the 3 of us that Jay took!

And here are some of couples at the party…

And we had one of the guys take a picture of us….thanks Trent!

Merry Christmas!

Let me introduce myself….”Hi, I’m Jackie”.  I think my blog has forgotten who I am since I haven’t been here in the past few weeks, so I thought I should remind it.  I vowed to take off the majority of the month of December, but it never quite happened.  Here I am on Christmas Eve, editing pictures.  Between Christmas shopping, parties, and all the other fun stuff that comes with Christmas, my poor blog has been left quite neglected.  However, all my shopping is done, the presents are wrapped, and we are ready for Christmas morning.  I’m really excited about Christmas this year since it will be the first year that Holden can really experience it.  Last year, he was only 7 months old and just wanted to crawl around in the paper.  We’ll see what happens this year!

I do want to share some fun pictures with you before I jet off to enjoy Christmas Eve with my family.  These are my best friends engagement pictures.  Merry Christmas Leslie!

{Magic Papa Pills}

We got to spend Thanksgiving with my family in OKC this year.  Holden is absolutely in love with my dad.  I have no idea what the deal is, but whenever my dad is around, he goes absolutely nuts and either follows him around everywhere or wants to be held by him.  It’s so crazy….he literally wants nothing to do with me or Jay and just totally ignores us when he’s around him.  Holden was sitting on my dad’s lap this afternoon watching a Christmas movie and Jay and I walked out together with bags because we were loading the car and Holden looked up at us and said “Bye”.  He was totally content with us leaving and him staying there!

So after we forced Holden to come back to his terrible life in Texas with us, we got all the Christmas decorations down and put up the tree.  Each year, we light a fire (no matter how warm it is outside), put on a good Christmas movie, make some hot cocoa, and put up the tree.  I just love our tradition.  Although this year, it was a little more difficult with Holden wanting to help out.  He just walked around picking up ornaments and saying “ooooh”….!  At first I thought he was thinking that the decorations were so pretty and then I realized his little one year old mind was most likely thinking “oh, more cool stuff of mom’s that I can take and hide in random places all around the house so she’ll never find it”.   Um yeah, lately you never know what you’re going to find in our house.  Shoes in the laundry basket, a cup of 4-day old, curdled milk behind the curtains, our undergarments in his rocket, floss and a cow floating in the toilet, my credit card in a watering can in the backyard.  Holden definitely keeps us on our toes lately!

On another note, here are some images of my last senior of the year.  Guys are usually a little harder than girls because they’re usually not as excited to get their pictures done and would rather show up for a quick shoot  and then leave.  But I just couldn’t let this one escape so quickly!  He brought great clothes, the best sunglassess AND his guitar!  On top of that, we had a cool location and he was a great model so there was no way I was letting him off the hook!  Sorry for all the work I made ya do!  But we got some awesome images and I think it was worth it!

From here on out, I’m not taking any more sessions for December.  I’ll be wrapping up some orders but other than that, I’ll be resting and enjoying the holiday with my family.  I’ll still be posting some so be sure and check back over the break!

{Santa Baby}

I got to do the cutest little girl last week.  She has the creamiest skin and the most incredible blue eyes. I absolutely LOVE these pictures of her in the santa hat!  Merry Christmas mom and dad!

{Fight Night}

I swear I have the cutest little boy ever!  He just loves his mom and I love it!  Holden has never liked it when Jay and I hug or get lovey-dovey.  He always squeezes right in the middle and breaks it up.  But lately he’s become my little protector.  Jay loves to watch UFC (for you girls out there that have no clue, it’s like a WWF thing but Jay hates it when I call it that because he says it’s real…. unlike the WWF fights).  Anyways, he likes to pretend he’s one of the fighters sometimes (boys really don’t ever fully grow-up) and likes to practice new moves on me quite often.  Lucky for him, I had a brother so I know a thing or two about wrestling.  And I have seriously flexible legs from years of gymnastics.  So if I can get my legs wrapped around him just right, he’s so at my mercy.

Well Jay has been in a wrestling mood lately so there have been lots of matches going on at our house much to Holden’s dismay.  When Holden sees us wrestling, he immediately stops whatever he’s into and rushes over to rescue me.  He starts pulling on Jay and yelling at him (in babytalk of course) until he gets him off of me.  He will literally wrap both arms around him and try and pull him off.  It’s the cutest thing ever.  But then my favorite part, is that he always comes to get me back up.  He grabs a hold of me and pulls until I sit up.  Then he sits in my lap for awhile to make sure Jay doesn’t attack again.  Isn’t that the sweetest thing ever?!?!

Alright, enough about Holden and all his cuteness.  Time to check out some senior cuteness!

I swear she could be a model.  She gave me the best expressions!
